Persecution in Iran Intensifies

Tehran, Iran - 15 May 2008

Six of the seven members of the “Friends in Iran,” the coordinating group for Iranian Bahá’í activities in the absence of its National governing body, were taken from their homes in the middle of the night yesterday, May 14, by Iranian intelligence officials and transported to Evin prison in Tehran. The six are: Mrs. Fariba Kamalabadi, Mr. Jamaloddin Khanjani, Mr. Afif Naeimi, Mr. Saeid Rezaie, Mr. Behrouz Tavakkoli, and Mr. Vahid Tizfahm. They now partake of the same injustice already meted out to their associate, Mrs. Mahvash Sabet, the seventh member of Friends in Iran, who was imprisoned in Mashhad on March 5, 2008. House Resolution 1008, a resolution condemning the persecution of the Iranian Bahá’ís, is pending ratification, and everyone is urged to contact your congressional representative to co-sponsor this resolution and put an end to this civil injustice.
