Woodburn Children’s Classes Begin
WOODBURN, OR - January 25, 2009
Bahá’í classes for children started today at the local public library in Woodburn. With the collaboration of Marisa Petersen from Medford and Rob Siegel from Philomath, Polk and Marion County Bahá’ís Luz Villaroel and David House held their first Woodburn children’s classes that will continue every Saturday to June 2009. Nine children, 4 junior youth and 12 adults attended the class that was based on the lessons contained in the 3rd book of the Ruhi series of study that is geared toward teaching children from 4 to 6 years of age. Because of the needs of the attendees, the classes were held in Spanish while the songs and prayers were bilingual Spanish-English. The activity brings to fruition a collaborative commitment of the Benton and Linn County Bahá’ís made during the Regional Bahá’í Conference in Portland in December 2008. In addition to classes for children, it is expected that some of the parents and other young adults will be taking classes to train them to become children’s class teachers as well. One of the participants already volunteered and the Ruhi 3 study materials in Spanish will be used.
